May was a good time of year. It was almost summer, which meant lovely sunny days with blue skies and fresh breezes. It meant long, starry nights, and picnics with friends on the grass. It meant good times, and having fun. Today looked like there was going to be plenty of that. It was gorgeous weather, the sun was shining and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. Jade had the day off, a coincidence that she was very grateful for, because there had been a cold snap not long ago and this was hopefully the end of it. She had planned to go to the theatre, a fresh group of players had visited from London, and she was very eager to see a new story acted out in front of her.
The maid had always loved the theatre, ever since she was little. The excitement of the crowd, and the suspense of the play… she drunk it all up with a vengeance. The girl was very sociable person, and she lived for days like this, days where she could laugh and enjoy herself to her hearts content. Working for the Norwood’s was all very well, but she did find the life style stifling sometimes. The way everybody had a set place and how it was unthinkable for anyone to do anything outside of what they were expected to do. Especially a servant like her. Sometimes she longed to tell the Lord and Lady just where they could put their house cleaning and errands, but she always reminded herself that there were several families around who treated their staff much worse. Anyway, if she did do that then no other house would ever take her in. No, Lord Norwood would see to that.
At least not all members of the gentry were like that, though. A smile played around her lips as she thought of Frederick and the time they had spent together. It was a pity that that had had to end. She’d like to see the Lady’s face if she ever found out that her precious son had been ‘consorting’ with a servant. As she entertained herself that possibility, she walked down towards the theatre and sat down on the grass outside, the next performance would not be for a while.
Jade raised her hand over her eyes to block out the sun, scanning the people around her for anyone she knew, but unusually, there was no one. Or at least, no one stood out to her. The area around the building was gradually filling as people of all ranks were attracted to the new shows by the fine weather, but the area was not the busiest she had seen it. Perhaps it was still too early in the season for some. She lowered her arm and fiddled with the side of her skirts, pulling them in so they were in no danger of being stepped on. She wouldn’t want her best dress to be ruined, not it was the type of thing the Lady Norwood would fuss over. It felt like Jade spent half her life helping that woman to get dressed into fabulous dresses that put hers to shame, and she was painfully aware of all the rich ladies in their latest fashions around her.
A shadow felll over the girl and she shaded her eyes again as she looked up. "Hello?"
Tag - Open Notes - It's bad... I'm not used to Jade yet, so hopefully it will get better ^^
