LET'S HERE IT FOR AMERICA'S SUITEHEARTSI MUST CONFESS I'M IN LOVE WITH MY OWN SINS YOU COULD'VE KNOCKED ME OUT WITH A FEATHER The bright and early morning started out like any other. Her adopted mother, Marie came in and woke her up with a start, telling her she had to get to work. Scrambling, she had managed to make it out to their travelling horse, Noble Belle, and on her way to her work. Luckily, she had been allowed to remain with her family, even though she "worked" for the Delaford family. In a way, she did, and could be called a servant, but she also was a maiden. Though, in the truth, she knew she was a servant. Eyes fell downwards as she felt some people looking to the blonde on the horse, trotting towards the Delaford estate. Hopping off, she adjusted her usual maid outfit, it was simple, with a white under garment, and a golden fit over it. The sleeves were long - as they always were. The bonnet - if you dared to call it that was perched on her head. Requirement you could say, for all maids in Delafords and the Norwoods.
Course, she didn't mention the Norwoods unless the Lady, Lord or one of their children brought it up to her. Pausing slightly, she swallowed, remembering when Marie had told her, if she wasn't good enough, they'd probably sell her to another family. Swallowing anxiously, she shook her head slightly, before tucking back a lock of her wavy blonde hair. Stubborn things she thought to herself, before having a handler take Noble Belle and put her up for the day. Heading inside, she stumbled into the kitchen, as Laine immediately handed her a heavy dish filled with things for the morning breakfast. At least she made it on time, she thought grumpily, though she grinned weakly, "Anything else when I return?" Laine shook her head, she was the "head" of the maids and servants, you could say, as headed off.
A soft sigh escaped pink lips, as she set the tray down, letting the Delafords eat. Smiling weakly, she then headed outside into the courtyard after being dismissed. Tending to some of their plants they'd planted, she made sure they were all doing all right. When someone approached, she tensed and immediately straightened herself, but no one came, they had turned another direction. Thankful for the peace and quiet - how-ever long it may last, she enjoyed it, it allowed her to think about things. Blue eyes surveyed the scene, before Laine walked by with some laundry, and snapped her fingers at her. A mental groan later, the blonde was aiding the brunette in some things, before Laine mentioned, "Go and see if any of the Delaford Ladies need assistance getting ready for the day."
And with that, the young woman was on her way. She frowned slightly as she made her way around the courtyards once more. This place was so beautiful, she couldn't imagine living in a place like this. Ok - she could, but her doubt told her it would most likely never happen. She was 20 now, just turned twenty a few weeks back. No one knew, and she didn't really care if anyone knew or not. It had been like this all her life, at least since she had been 16. Lungs expanded slowly, as she then ascended the stairs up to the chambers, the third floor. Speaking softly to a door or two, she inquired, "Do you require any assistance this morning?"

you taught me everything i know wave goodbye, wish me well you've gotta let me go The sun. Time to get up. Laura never overslept. She never let her eyes stay closed any longer than they should. She had a schedule, one that she would follow everyday just to make sure that nothing out of the ordinary happened. It was just the way things worked with her. She had to make sure she knew exactly what she was doing or else the whole day seemed out of balance.
She stretched letting her nightgown swirl around her. She reached up to her hair and slowly undid the braids she had put in the night before. They were still in good condition considering she had just slept on them, it was as though they didn't even dare to go out of place in front of her. Her fingers ran through her hair making sure the braids were completely out before sitting down on the edge of her bed and running a brush through her nearly tangle free hair.
The days never got boring to her. This was life. She never understood the people who tried to change the life they were born into. It didn't make sense. Don't try to change your destiny. You just have to live it however it was presented to you and make the best of it.
Laura made her way towards her clothes she had laid out last night for herself. There was no lady's maid in her room meaning they were late or someone forgot about her. Not that she needed one, it was just the proper setting that she had grew up in. No problem. I'll just get dressed myself. I'm sure someone will come by eventually. Laura may talk to herself in her mind but she was sort of annoyed. It was little things like that which made her all the more cross and high-strung.
The clothes came over her head and wrapped her up tight covering her body. Her thoughts began to wander. Not to anything in particular. Everything was just normal at the moment which was just the way it was suppose to be. The future was what she didn't know anything about which truthfully scared her. The not knowing and looming future in front of her made her try to keep in order with what she did know. Simple as that.
Twirling slowly in front of the mirror Laura was satisfied with how she looked. Just her hair was left. She moved over to her vanity where her desk held everything she needed, exactly where she last put them. After setting out her bobby pins on the table her hand made contact with them as she reached for the brush and sent them flying to the ground. Taking a sharp breath she slowly bent down to pick them up. "Do you require any assistance this morning?" A maid. Laura quickly stood up with the bobby pins resting in her hand and turned towards the door only to see that the servant had already moved on. She briskly walked to the door to her chamber and took a step out into the hall. "Excuse me, I would require some assistance for there was no maid sent to me earlier this morning." Her voice traveled down the hallway. Harsh and sharp. Her morning was already setting her in a bad mood just by the little things that had happened out of place.

LET'S HERE IT FOR AMERICA'S SUITEHEARTSI MUST CONFESS I'M IN LOVE WITH MY OWN SINS YOU COULD'VE KNOCKED ME OUT WITH A FEATHER Honestly - with the Delafords, she didn't know what she could do for them. Sometimes it varied, one time she had to help Madeline with a game that no one else would play with her in it. That had turned out - interesting. A soft smile appeared on the woman's lips, as the blonde sauntered down the hall. Noticing some dust, she raised her arms, as if dancing with a partner, a male, and spun towards it. Grinning weakly, making sure no one else was around, she then wiped it off with the hem of her skirt. Checking over the counter, once she deemed it worthy, she straightened herself, before suddenly hearing someone reply to her inquiry about anyone needing help. When Laura answered, a smile blessed her features, though she had a feeling someone would get ranted on. Maybe her, but she didn't mind.
Laura Delaford was....Laura Delaford. There were so many things Alexandra didn't like about her, but also admired about her. She was so - proper. She could only dream of being that beautiful. Crystalline eyes gleamed as she headed back towards the Lady's room, the woman's voice harsh and cold, as if she'd been thrown into cold water now. Entering the chamber, she inquired, "Would you like your door closed or open, Miss Delaford?" she shrunk her frame as best she could, not wanting to appear "threatening" to her in anyway possible. Her mother's words had gotten to her, getting her worried about being "sold" off to another family, having to work for them instead of the Delafords. Offering a gentle smile, she then approached her.
Scanning over the other blonde's hair, she questioned, "What can I help you with?" she was curious, she seemed to have gotten ready by herself just fine. Though who knew, maybe her corset wasn't right, or her dress had something wrong with it. Nibbling her bottom lip nervously, the young woman then tilted her head, and added, "I am so sorry no one came to your aid. I'll make sure someone does tonight and tomorrow." she promised, making a mental note to let Laine know about it. Most likely Laura's maid was sick. Falling silent, Alexandra let her tell her what she needed.
Her guess - which tended to be right sometimes, was her hair. The two braids most women slept in were neat - Laura always looked neat and beautiful. Envy sneaked through her veins, though she didn't show it, she didn't like that emotion. It claimed people's lives, and could destroy many things, including friendships and relationships. Granted, she'd never be allowed to have a friendship with someone like Laura, unless she too, was of a Lord and Lady. But - she didn't know who she was of. She settled for Joseph and Marie Brightmore as her parents, since her parents didn't seem to want her, because why did they get rid of her? Realizing she'd drifted slightly, she refocused herself back on the task at hand.

close your eyes clear your heart cut the cord Laura didn't have much patience. She expected things to be done exactly when she wanted them to be done. The only things that normally set her back were other people. They were the ones that didn't understand that she wanted it done exactly when she wanted it to be done. They were the ones that dilly-dallied causing her to have to wait longer. Time wasn't going to wait for anyone.
Laura walked back into her room, head held high. You could balance a book on her head and it wouldn't fall. The thing was, she had balanced a book on her head so many times that she wouldn't be able to tell you. Laura was sure she was the only one that could say she walked like that all the time, everyone else didn't seem to care as much. Their loss. "Closed," Laura said over her shoulder without giving a thought to who just asked her the question.
The maids didn't get as much recognition as they probably should but Laura didn't care. They weren't going to change her life at all. It wasn't like they were helping her because they wanted to either, they were helping her because they had to. Not their choice. So why should they be thanked? Thank you for doing your job? Um. No. If they weren't doing their job they would be fired so no need to thank them for doing something they are getting paid for.
The maid talked some more as Laura slowly lowered herself into the chair in front of her desk and mirror. She sat and looked at the face staring back at her. It was hers. She wasn't satisfied with how it looked though. Not yet. The only people that ever saw her like this were the maids and her mother. She still had her makeup to put on too but she liked doing her hair first. Really she didn't need the maid because she didn't like anyone touch her hair. You had no idea where those hands had been and if they even knew what they were doing, but she would find something for the maid to do since she had called the maid in.
"Here. Hold these pins out for me." Laura put the pins on the desk for the maid to take them when she came back over to her. She took the brush and began to pull in back. She placed the brush on the table and began to move her hands in the way she did almost every morning. Her mother had taught her how to make a bun just using her own hair and two pins. Everything she knew that mattered came from her mother. Of course she had had a tutor but she had already gotten rid of that. It were those little tricks about being a lady that mattered the most to her which only her mother could past on to her.
The one thing that was bothering Laura the most was the fact she did not have a husband. Many girls younger than her had already had husband and even children. Laura didn't. It hit her hard every time she thought about it. She had prepared her whole life for it and yet here was but a single lady. "Pin" Her hand outstretched for the pin from the maid. Laura wasn't paying attention to the maid, she was lost in her own thoughts. Conversation was unneeded. It was a pointless thing that wasted time. Might as well just finish this up.

LET'S HERE IT FOR AMERICA'S SUITEHEARTSI MUST CONFESS I'M IN LOVE WITH MY OWN SINS YOU COULD'VE KNOCKED ME OUT WITH A FEATHER Blue eyes watched carefully as the other blonde sauntered back into the room. Seeing how Laura carried herself, Alexandra wished so badly that she could do that. She had attempted it a few times, with Lydia, her adopted sister around, but that had quickly ended. At her simple word, the maid quickly closed the door till it latched, her personality seemed to have vanished once the door sealed her inside the room. Biting her bottom lip nervously, she hovered near the door for a moment, as if tempted to run. Though, that would just mean more trouble for her. Quickly, she regained herself, telling herself, you are strong, Alexandra...she's just another person.... Though, Laura Delaford wasn't just another person. She was a Lady, or soon to be at least, and was a daughter of the family she was hired to work for. Nonetheless, Alexandra's emotions went haywire thinking about this.
Approaching Laura, Alexandra's eyes rested on Laura's reflection, then shifted to see her own. Bright, sapphire-hued blue eyes burst from her tan features, wavy blonde hair cascading about her shoulders and back, framing her features. Self-aware suddenly in front of Laura with her straight, lovely hair, Alexandra's envy sparked, though only nothing. Softly, she then heard Laura speak simply, giving her commands. Oh yes, she was accustomed to getting simple orders like this, such as hold these pins for her hair. Craddling them, as if they were an infant, the blonde lifted her head slowly, eyes watching Laura with curiosity. When asked for the pin, Alexandria swiftly placed it in the blonde's outstretched hand, though said nothing more.
At least her hands were clean. Most maids', and servants' hands weren't. She always kept herself clean, like it was in her blood to be clean, though she would be nothing more than a servant to women like her. Was she angry? Yes, but for some strange reason. She did like Lady Delaford better, she'd admit, she treated her with some more respect than she ever got with Laura. Maybe it was their closeness in age? She doubted it. Besides, Laura was three years her junior, but Laura didn't know that, and Alexandra doubted that she actually cared. As the bun started to appear, she then opened her mouth slowly, and murmured, "Might I suggest...something else, m'Lady?" she inquired, ready to run if Miss Delaford flipped out on her.
She did take a tentative step back, though offered a weak grin in the mirror to the other blonde. "Perhaps...just tying back some of it, not all." This would help her with things. Make her look less...unapproachable was a good word. Should she mention that? Would she take her seriously then? Lips pursed slightly, though she still managed to keep a small smile on her face. "It will look just as nice, I assure you, m'Lady, and it's a new look." she added calmly, though ready to dodge a hand that Laura might throw, or maybe a comb or something. Offering her the other pin, the blonde added, "Only if you wish to, m'Lady."
Personally, she hoped she'd do it. Alexandra could help if she didn't know how to do it. But - if she didn't want to, then so be it, she had offered, and if the offer wasn't taken, oh well. Or maybe she wouldn't do it now, but another time. Either way, Alexandra just knew it would probably help her look less...uptight. Granted, Laura enjoyed looking proper and posh, though every guy enjoyed it when a women let down her hair sometimes. (Having heard from many men and servant friends) Alexandra shifted silently, the floor creaking slightly as she did so, and she hastily shifted back, not wanting to make any more sounds if she could avoid them.

and sometimes i get nervous when i see an open door Laura did this every morning. Every morning. It was her schedule and she followed it with no exceptions. After this she would go downstairs and have breakfast with her family, that was if they were on schedule which sometimes they were not. After that sewing. Laura enjoyed that the most out of her day. She was moving on now to more complicated things such as a wall hanging. The little stitches all in their their proper place coming together to make something bigger and better.
Laura took the pin and was on her way to putting it into her hair when the maid spoke. That wasn't what she was suppose to do. Maids were suppose to be quiet unless they were asked to talked. That was the proper, orderly thing to do. Laura ignored her putting the pin fulling into her hair so it was hidden with her blonde locks. Then she spoke again and Laura put all the words together.
She telling me I'm wrong. She telling me that her idea is better. The thoughts flickered through her head right away. Her body got tight. She didn't like the suggestions that were coming her way. They were implying that her way of doing things was not correct. That she was wrong. And coming from a maid! It was almost a disgrace to Laura. Laura's breathing came a little quicker but she stayed silent for a while longer letting the maid stand there in the awkward silence. Which was what she deserved.
"Are you saying that the way I am doing it is not correct? Are you saying I am wrong? I believe that is not your place to talk for you are only a lowly maid," Laura spoke quickly and sharply without giving the maid one look, only reaching out for the other pin. She stuck the next pin in slowly and deliberately just to show that she was right and the maid was wrong.
Laura was always right. She made sure she was right. Admitting to being wrong showed weakness. Laura wasn't weak. She was the opposite. Laura knew she was, she just had to prove it to the rest of the world. It wasn't the maid's fault that she had touched the wrong button on Laura, how could she have known? Laura wasn't going to account for that though. Any maid that believed she had a better idea than her deserved no sympathy.

LET'S HERE IT FOR AMERICA'S SUITEHEARTSI MUST CONFESS I'M IN LOVE WITH MY OWN SINS YOU COULD'VE KNOCKED ME OUT WITH A FEATHER The last pin left her hands, and they immediately twisted into their own nerves. Her stomach too, contorted uncomfortably in her torso. Resisting the urge to suddenly relieve the pressure, and bring her breakfast back up into the world, Alexandra looked away for a moment. Once she had her stomach under control, her eyes fixed back onto Laura as the silence enveloped them suddenly. When that happened, Alexandra knew she had stepped out of place. Her world came crashing down as Miss Delaford ignored her for a few moments, as she finished putting her hair up anyway. The uptight, perfectionist bun. The bun that would help draw men towards her, but also repel the better ones from her too.
When the blonde's attention fixed onto her, Alexandra flinched slightly, as if she had been struck, though no hand made contact with the tan skin. Course, she didn't speak for awhile, and she had a guess Miss Delaford was doing this on purpose. No matter. Pink lips opened, and she voiced, "I'm sorry." quickly, but she knew the damage had already been done. Great - might as well as start looking for another job. That is, unless Lady Delaford would keep her longer. Well - she had before, after Alexandra had accidentally gotten the wrong horse ready for her. It was as if...she didn't know. (Alexandra's parents are good friends with Delafords)
Though, when she spoke, it felt as if every word was a nail, and Miss Delaford drove it into her. Stepping back carefully, her personality flared, though she kept herself quiet - somewhat. Once she finished, the "lowly maid" struck her chord wrong. The blonde growled, "I'm not saying it's wrong." she snapped, and continued, her voice soft now, "I'm just suggesting that you do something different. You're driving the men away, Miss Delaford. Change it up, men like unpredictable women." she mused, and stepped away, knowing her work here was done - most likely.
With that, the young woman opened the door and gave Miss Delaford one look, and added, "It looks nice." though there was a certain undertone there that one would have to know her to get. "Please, excuse me." Closing the door behind her, Alexandria hovered silently in the hallway for a moment. Inhaling slowly, she looked to Laine, who was rushing by with linens. The older woman saw the other's features, and clicked her tongue, "C'mon, Alexandra." Pausing, she cast one glance at the door to which she had closed on Laura, and headed down to the kitchen.

my sign is vital my hands are cold and i'm on my knees looking for the answer
Laura stared at herself in the mirror. She was looking at herself but not really. She was examining every little feature, she was just taking it in as a whole without really looking. Her head was spinning and she was taking short quick breaths. Yes, she was getting worked up over a suggestion from a maid. That was just how Laura was.
The maid spoke some more as she backed away from Laura. She could tell that Laura didn't want her there anymore, that much was obvious. What must have not been so obvious was that Laura didn't want to hear anything else from her mouth because the maid kept speaking. She wasn't really paying attention to what the maid was saying but some words she just couldn't ignore.
The part about men and how she was driving them away. The complete opposite of what she wanted to do and yet that is what the maid said she was doing. Would putting her hair down really change that? Laura doubted it, she was suppose to be a lady not some silly girl who liked to play with her hair. The truth was though it kind of hurt to hear that. Laura always expected that she would be the one to get married first. She knew that there were plenty of girls older than her that weren't married yet but she also knew there were plenty that were younger and were already married. It wasn't like Laura was picky, she just needed a man that would support her through the rest of her life. That's what marriage is about. Laura didn't believe in the whole love thing, she just saw that as a way to make a marriage more enjoyable for both sides.
She heard her door shut signaling that the maid had left. Then Laura felt the tears begin to swell up in her eyes. She never cried though. That showed weakness. No one liked someone who cried. No one...Laura was crying anyways. She didn't want to but she couldn't hold it back anymore. Those last comments from the maids had just sent her over the edge. Everything that had been upsetting her lately ran through her head and her thoughts began to beat up on her. You will never become a lady. You are good enough. You will never get married. You will be lonely the rest of your life. People will look down on you. Now Laura began to sob.
Crying wasn't in her schedule. She should be almost ready to head downstairs now. This wasn't how it was suppose to go. She hadn't cried in most likely almost a year. She had to get herself together so she could go on with her day. She shouldn't let a few things out of place disrupt her in any way. She was stronger than this she needed to take it and move on. Laura couldn't though. She felt herself keep crying even though she was willing herself to stop. This wasn't what she had planned.
